Teachings Of The Witch of Portobello

I had been nudged by my gut to write about a couple of teachings that were in the Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho. These were teachings that had impacted me in a way that can be compared to that of a knife suddenly being pulled out of my soul. The pain that was a result of the new found awareness is like a deep stabbing to the the heart. The liberation though was worth it.

The first of was when they talked about the difference between a teacher and that of her students. When they mentioned that the teacher had nothing over her students I couldn't comprehend it, but only when I read the next few lines it stated that we are all on equal ground and that the only reason why a teacher had the power to lead was because of the lack of fear to move in the direction where others would only falter. It struck me because I am a learning specialist myself, I teach for a living. I have taught people how to be good at what they were supposed to do, but at the same time I also found myself teaching these people how to change their line of thinking and perspective. Now looking back at what was initially stated, if you look at my history with those that I have taught, I really never had anything over them. I was simply being a facilitator to them. I was teaching them all the lessons that they innately already should know and grasp. All that I was doing was bringing them into a new place where they could utilize these skills and use them to bring the things that they have always wanted yet have feared and doubted they could obtain. Their reasons may vary, fear, lack of confidence, financial security, they can call it all that they want but they fail to realize that If they looked at me as an example I was no different from them. That I too was in there with them. The only difference was my shift in mindset - I wasn't afraid to trust what was coming and eventually finding that what is in the process of becoming was something worthwhile and beautiful.

The second lesson was to learn to let go of everything that you knew about reality. To let go of the logic, teachings, and rules that have been binding us from seeing the beauty and color of the life that surrounds us. To be open enough to understand that there is something far greater than us. That it is the source of where we come from and where we shall be going. It has promised to take care of us, to love us, to guide us, and most importantly to give us the thing that we most desire - our happiness. Unless we learn to let go of the reality that blinds us from receiving all that which is rightfully deserving of us, then we will be forever caught in our current reality trap.

It was said in many religious teachings, man has been given the most wondrous gift amongst all, the gift of "Free Will". Destiny and Fate have been blamed for causing misery and at the same time prosperity. With a little research you'll find that those that succeed versus those that aren't have nothing different at all. The only difference is that one had the courage to dream and chase after it whole heartedly while the other was "satisfied" with his current circumstance and has accepted it as his reality. The other opened his heart and trusted that things would work out, believing that with faith, passion, and will power he was going to be what he wanted to be. This enabled the higher power, the universe I'd like to call it, to work and align the things that were needed in order for this to happen. This is not just some story, "The Witch of Portobello" is not some fairy tale to uplift your hearts. This book was reaching out to all of it's readers to open their hearts and minds to the possibilities that are out there. That the Universe, Mother Earth, God, whatever you feel comfortable calling it, is alive and loves you. For you are it's child, it's source of consciousness and awareness of itself. Free will is it's greatest gift. Successful people all over the globe from financial advisers to physicists have recently identified, accepted and have proven it to be the most powerful tool human kind has at its disposal - It is known by many to work hand in hand with a powerful law that enables us to obtain all that which we desire called "The Law of Attraction". All this is inside of you and it always will be if only you choose to see it for what it truly is. The key to finding it is just as simple - seek that which makes you happy. Once you get to accept that, doors will be opened, opportunities, events, people, things that you never thought possible will present themselves before you to grant your heart's true desires. This is where magic and miracles happen. All it takes from you is to believe.
