China Earthquake 2008 Update

Wenchuan , China - The death toll of Monday's massive earthquake 7.9 that struck central china has exceeded 12, 000 people and the expected death toll count is expected to reach approximately 18, 000 people as many more have been left unaccounted for. After shocks hit the country about 30 times with a minimum magnitude of 4.0 leveling the buildings within the center of the quake and affecting nearby towns and villages.

It was only today that several relief aid soldiers have been able to reach the area and for a lot of them time is running out. China has just accepted the US government's offer of $500, 000 in relief aids according to the US Agency for International Development.

One of the greatest issues in terms of coordinating relief work for the victims has been the loss of communication means and are as of the moment making due with satellite phones. Another part of the problem is the steady drizzle and poor weather in the area causing difficulty in reaching those that are buried beneath the rubble.
