Food Fridays on Empty Streets: Fruit cakes for the holidays

Posted 9:16 AM by Mezhal Ulao in Labels: , ,
Christmas is fast approaching and it is the season of sharing and giving as well as the more popularly delish dish known to everyone as Fruit Cake. Though admittedly a lot of bad publicity has been given this little dessert due to the taste of mass produced batches - all of that immediately gets turned around once one gets to try the homemade varieties that comes fresh out of the oven and ready to eat.

Here are the cooking ingredients and items you shall need:
# Loaf Pans
# Mixing Bowls
# Spatulas
# Strainers
# Spatulas
# Strainers
# Mixing bowls
# 3/4 lb. candied mixed fruits
# 1/4 lb. chopped walnuts
# 1 16-oz. package cake mix

and the easy instructions am sure you'll love to follow:

Step1
Place the dried fruit in a bowl and cover with warm water. Soak for 15 minutes, then strain and pat the fruit dry with paper towels.
Step2
While the fruit soaks, prepare twice the number of pans that the cake package suggests, because you will be adding the fruit to the batter, increasing its volume.
Step3
Prepare the cake batter according to package directions, but stop just before adding the completed batter to the cake pans.
Step4
Fold in the fruit and the walnuts by hand, then divide the mixture between the pans.
Step5
Bake according to package directions.

So once you have had your practice, which I strongly recommend, you will find that you can actually add a bit more in terms of what you mix into the actual cake to give it a little accent such as the berries and nuts to give it more of an aphrodisiac effect. So as with all cooking advices would go - learn to have fun and pour some love into the mix and am sure things will all work out fine.

Help end world hunger

Hi Metz!
I love fruit cakes, they´re my favorite. I prefer the ones with different types of nuts, almonds, etc, not those with other fruits.
A great Saturday xx
